Trafalgar Day Tea Dance - 20th October 2024
Bonnets and Breeches' 5th tea dance was a roaring success, with this event being themed around the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805. We danced a whole array of dances linked to the battle: The Trafalgar March, Auretti's Dutch Skipper, College Hornpipe, We Will Down With the French, Nelson's Return, A Fig for Bonaparte, Bonaparte in a Knapsack, Tars of the Victory, and the Naval Flirtation Finale. We also sang a rendition of the sea shanty "Sam's Gone Away", led by one of our very own dance mistresses, Vicky. It was a fantastic day and was very well attended. We were very lucky to get some photographs taken by budding professional photographer Harvey Tomlinson, some of which are shown below. We also has a fun photo backdrop and props which made for some hilarious photos. More photos and videos of the event can be found on our Facebook page and Youtube channel.
Belton Community Festival - 14th September 2024
We were very excited to have been able to perform at Belton House's inaugural Community Festival as part of the Heritage Open Days. We performed a 30 minute set of our favourite dances from tv and film adaptations, including a dance to the Bridgerton theme Tune choreographed by our very own dance mistress, Vicky. We also danced Upon a Summer's Day, Hole in the Wall, Shrewsbury lasses, Mr Beveride's Maggot, pleasures of the Town and The Comical Fellow. We were very lucky with the weather and all had a fun day out. Many thanks to National Trust Belton House for inviting us and including us in the day.

Bonnets and Breeches Summer Picnic at Newstead Abbey - 18th August 2024
This year, we were lucky enough to have warm and sunny weather for our summer picnic. We organised a wonderful day at Newstead Abbey, and a lot of people turned up, which was fabulous! We all enjoyed lovely food, great company, lawn games and a wonderful setting, promenading around the grounds and gardens. Some members also went inside the house - it was great to meet and talk to the staff and volunteers there. We couldn't have had a more perfect day. Thank you to everyone who came along!
Halifax Ball - 26th July 2024
A massive thank you to Richard Macfarlane and the Bankfield Museum team for hosting a wonderful regency ball once again. With music by the fantastic Pemberley Players, the evening was a jolly and lively one and we had a lovely time! It was also great to see Mr Darcy's 'wet' shirt, which Colin Firth himself wore in the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice... sigh.
HDS Victorian Dance Summer School - July 2024
Many of our members attended the Historical Dance Society's Victorian Dance Summer School at Bromsgrove School. We had 4 days of dancing, learning new dances, such as the Polka, Mazurka, and Victorian Waltz. We loved every minute of it, although were all shattered by the end. It was also great to get dressed up in a different era of costumes - everyone's outfits looked amazing! A special thanks to our wonderful dance teachers for the weekend - Libby Curzon, Birte Hoffmann-Cabenda and Sam Gosk, as well as Anne Daye and Ian Cutts for a splendid evening of traditional Victorian dances.
Alton Jane Austen Regency Week and Ball - 22nd June 2024
Debra, Ivan and Victoria all attended the Alton Jane Austen festival, running a stall of regency goodies as part of the festival market, followed that evening by the Regency Ball. We did lots of different dances and met lots of both old and new acquaintances. Thanks to the Hampshire Regency Dancers for a wonderful and fun evening.
Shrewsbury Ball - 8th June 2024
Several of our members attended the Meryton Mob's Shrewsbury Ball held at St Mary's Church. It was a brilliant evening with great music by Vicki Swann and Johnny Dyer, in a fabulous location. Thanks to Karen and Pete Evans for being fantastic hosts!
Whilst exploring Shrewsbury town, we also came across a pub called 'Hole in the Wall' and set a challenge to see how many different places with that name there are across the country - apparently there are not many left!
